Ladder leagues are an exciting way for members to be competitive against one another and enjoy the thrill of challenging new opponents. Ladders are a great way to work out the pecking order in a club, at our home club we offer our mens and ladies doubles teams ladders and this forms the basis for team selection in our club teams.
Matchspace currently operates a 'bump rank' ladder system (more variations to come!).
In bump rank, let's say Chris is ranked #15 and he challenges Jack who is ranked #3. If Chris wins, he will become #3, and Jack will become #4. If Chris loses both players stay where they are.
Players can challenge anyone in the designated green 'challenge zone' which is set by the coach in the initial league setup. In a competitive ladder we recommend having a small 'challenge zone' maybe 3-4 places whereas in a more social ladder you could have a larger 'challenge zone' which you could even set to contain every player in the ladder so everyone can challenge everyone. Its your choice and as the coach of your club you know what will work best for your league but you may want to experiment with different formulas to see what gets your members engaged the most.
